The darker side of Facebook - harbouring sex offenders and paedophiles as reported in the UK press this week
Facebook and social media have the power to change the world as I have written about recently - but here is the darker side of Facebook as reported in the UK media this week.
- Six mothers who set up a campaign group on Facebook to track down and expose online paedophiles have been given a warning and had their page removed from the internet. Leanne Moss, 33, set up the Mommies on a Mission group after claiming she stumbled across Facebook profile pages featuring images of child abuse. But the group, which attracted more than 300 people in two days, was later removed by Facebook, who sent Mrs Moss a message saying the content violated their terms of use. Read more about this story on the Daily Mail website.
- The BBC reports today that the ringleader of an international netwtork who shared up to 100,000 indecent images of children on Facebook has been jailed for four years.
As a mum of three little ones these stories obviously caught my attention.
I wonder what if any reaction we will see in relation to people starting to think about Facebook in a different way? What implications does this have for my family when my children reach 13 years of age will I be pro-Facebook or what ever is the newest social network then?
What do you think?
