I have mixed thoughts on social marketing influence ranking tools. On the one hand I do not personally like them as a way to calculate influence based, for example, on the number of followers someone has on social networks and the number of shares their content gets is only one part of determing influence.
Someone may not have a high score on a social influence meaurement platform but may be highly influential with the people they are connected with.
However it is important that we understand how social influence tools work and a number of brands are using social influence measurement tools as part of their online visibility and word of mouth marketing campaigns.
In my digital communications programmes, one of the social influence measurement platforms that we cover is Klout and I was fortunate to meet their co-founder Joe Fernandez a few years ago soon after Klout had been established.
