As you may have realised from my posts this year I have been deep diving into Google Hangouts and one of the innovations I have been interested in seeing unfold are Shoppable hangouts where through an integration with Google you can watch a live show and then be able to explore and purchase the products that are showcased on Google Plus and even make a purchase.
I will be going into more depth on how this actually works in a future article and what the implications are for marketers, including how you could explore this social commerce idea even if you are not active yet on Google Plus.
Today I want to share with you a Shoppable hangout that is taking place today 4 April at 5 pm Ireland/Uk and 12 pm ET for the retailer Kohl who are hosting a Shoppable hangout with designer Peter Som as they lauch a new collection inspired as they say on their Google Plus Page but the laid back luxury of St Barths. Fashion bloggers will be joining the live show as guests.
Here is the trailer for the show. To be honest it’s not great in terms of production values versus what I have come to expect of Google Hangout trailers, but don’t let that put you off.
You can watch the interactive social commerce event here – you do not even need to be logged into Google Plus or have a Google Plus profile to enjoy this social commerce experience.
I have also embedded the Hangout below on this page so you can watch it here.
I hope you get the opportunity to watch the live event if you are interested in social commerce using Google Hangouts.
Here is a screenshot post of the Kohl shoppable hangout which shows the Google Shopping Shortlists that connect to the Kohl ecommerce system so you can make a purchase while watching the event.
By the way, if you are interested in actually purchasing from Kohls, check out their website as they have an offer there for the 4 and 5 April only where there is a US$10 voucher if you make a purchase before the collection hits the stores and you can redeem it between 10 and 19 April 2014 – what a great way to encourage easely purchases of a new collection (ensure you check their site for specific terms of the offer). It will be interesting to see if this is referenced in the live Hangout.
Now what Kohl should also do is ensure they have a Spring collection on their Pinterest board where they have ove 47,000 followers as Pinterest is driving a lot of traffic to sites for ecommerce. I wonder if they will introduce this or perhaps they have tested it already?
