As previously anticipated, Facebook has just announced a new design for Facebook Pages which will be rolling out over the week ahead.
The majority of your Facebook fans never return to your Facebook Page once they have ‘liked’ it so they will most probably be oblivious to the changes – but it is something that you will want to take note of if you are managing a Facebook Page for your organisation.
Facebook announced there would be a streamlined look for Pages.
This week, we’ll begin rolling out a streamlined look for Pages on desktop that will make it easier for people to find the information they want and help Page admins find the tools they use most.
You can see a screen shot of what they posted in their announcement below.
Below are the key changes we need to be aware of.
1. The Facebook Feed Becomes A Single Column
The Feed at the moment is in two columns and you can highlight posts to cover the full width of the page.
2. Information About Your Business Will Appear On The Left Of Your Page On Desktops
The left-side column of your timeline will include the information about your organisation, including where relevant based on the category of your business a map, your hours of business, phone number and website URL, as well as photographs and videos.
3. Ads Management Becomes Prominent At The Top Of Your Page
If you have been following online articles about the changes to the NewsFeed that your fans see, you will be aware that Facebook has been promoting using Facebook advertising to promote your content if you want to maintain or increase engagement.
With the new design they comment that you will be able to ‘view information about the ads you are running and new likes on your Page, as well unread notifications and messages no matter where you are on your Page’. They have also added new navigation options to the top of the Page, making it easier to access your activity, insights and settings.
The ‘Build Audience’ menu at the top of the Page offers direct access to your Ads Manager account.
4. It Becomes Easier To Track The Performance Of Other Pages
Facebook is making available the new ‘Pages to Watch’ feature in the Page Insights tool to all admins. This means that you can create a list of Pages similar to your own and compare the performance of your Page with that other organisations.
On the ‘Overview’ tab of your Page Insights, if you are a Page admin, you will see key stats about the Pages you are watching.
The ‘Posts’ tab of Page Insights includes a feature to view the past week’s most engaging posts from the Pages you’re watching. This will help you review your content plan against that of other Pages your are monitoring.
5. Faceook Apps Will No Longer Be Immediately Visible When Fans Look At Your Facebook Page
Looking at the screen shot of the new Facebook Page design you might be wondering where the Apps have moved to for example the links to your competitions, email registrations or even your Instagram feed.
According to Inside Facebook, a Facebook representative the custom tabs for your Apps will be under the ‘more’ button.
If you have been managing your Facebook marketing integrating visual content to support your digital marketing strategy, then you will know that for success, you will need to promote your Apps through Facebook posts and even ads if you are hosting a competition and want to ensure your fans are aware of them.
Are you looking forward to these changes? It will be interesting to see which Pages switch sooner and what if any changes will mean to engagement and interaction with our content by fans.
