This Summer is my 10th anniversary in the world of podcasting and so many things have changed during that time. I have hosted many different series of podcasts, produced podcasts for clients, trained people on creating podcasts for their business and hosted the first ever PodCamps in Ireland where we introduced people to social media many years ago.
And in the forthcoming weeks we are about to start a new audio podcast series in the very near future (more of that in a future article).
With smartphones, apps, hosting and equipment that make podcasting much easier than 10 years ago, many more people are starting to think of podcasting – both audio and video podcasts.
It is only in recent years however that we find podcasts increasing in popularity. So it was great to see a new initiative last year from the team who help many people create their podcast jingles Mike and Izbela Russell create a UK Podcasters Meetup.
They have grown their ambition this year and are hosting a conference called New Media Europe. Speakers at the main conference which takes place in September in Manchester include well known podcasters such as Cliff Ravenscraft and Chris Drucker.
The conference is aimed at podcasters and bloggers who want to use social media, including podcasting, more effectively. My only disappointment is the fact they names it New Media Europe as blogging, podcasting and online video have been around for more than 10 years now.
In the lead up to New Media Europe a number of local podcasters meetups are taking place and the final one before the event is in Scotland.
New Media Europe Scottish Meetup – Learn how to build visibility and attract leads using Instagram
Izabela invited me to speak at the Scottish event and while I would have loved to have shared Periscope for business tips as the app can be used to help you borh create and promote your podcast to attract more listeners, her preferred topic for me to cover was another visual marketing platform I think is hugely undervalued for business – Instagram.
I will be talking about how to build your visibility and attract leads with Instagram including:
– how to integrate Instagram into your content marketing
– sharing smart phone apps to help you create visual content in minutes from wherever you are
– mistakes to avoid when using Instagram for business
– recommendations for actions you can take to express your brand on the fast growing social network
– and I hope we will have time for a conversation on what attendees find works for them so that we share best practice tips.
You can find out more about the Scottish event and how to book a ticket here. The other speakers will be speaking about profitable podcasting so if you have not yet hosted your first podcast you will be able to learn how to get started.
I am looking forward to visiting Scotland – it is the perfect excuse for a short break with the family too!
Let me know if you plan to come to the New Media Europe Scottish Meetup – there are still a few places left and it is going to be a great event as it is small and therefore really personable and a great environment for us to learn from each other. And hopefully it will inspire you to consider attending the main event in September.
