In this series of exploring how brands and organisations are using Google Hangouts for business, a recent example you will want to explore especially if you are in the business of sports is that helpd by Nike Football called #AskZlatan.
The promotion states:
The world is invited to a liveGoogle+ Hangout with Zlatan, one of the riskiest footballers in the world and star of Nike Football’s The Last Game. Zlatan will share his wisdom on life and always risking it all on the pitch.
I have previously covered how a football club used Google Hangouts to connect with fans and also how Shoppable Hangouts were used for a NASCAR event. This event is somewhat different as the guest star is an animation.
This most recent event hosted by Nike Football had a fun animated video trailer to promote the Hangout with over 450,000 people having viewed the trailer at the time of writing this article (some 5,500 indicated they were going to attend the event and the Hangout has over 17,300 views).
In advance of the event checking the Nike Football Twitter and Facebook pages you can see they cross promoted the upcoming Hangout, although there is no reference on their Instagram page.
The Nike Football Google Plus page is a recent addition to their social media profiles however you will find reference to an invitation to people to both post a question to be handled in the Hangout and apply to participate in the event.
You can find the event page and the recording of the #AskZlatan Hangout on the Nike Football Google Hangout Event Page here.
