Vacancy: The International Red Cross are looking for an online communications professional

The International Red Cross have an exciting opportunity that has arisen for an online communications specialist, based in Geneva.

I was asked by their Head of Media to share the details of the role which I am really happy to do as I know a number of people in my network are looking for an opportunity in this area.

Description of Duties:

Contribute to the development of and day to day responsibility for the implementation of an online and social media strategy that identifies new opportunities, streamlines and builds on current initiatives and brings coherence to the overall media strategy

Develop specific online media strategies to support and develop effective advocacy campaigns, ensuring coherence and complementarity with media strategies for operational and thematic issues and events

Responsible for mapping and media relations with relevant online and social media sites and organizations

Develop and lead the IFRC's online reputation monitoring initiatives

Evaluate the effectiveness of the existing social media activities of the International Federation's Secretariat

Create tools for National Societies that will assist them in developing and executing their own social media activities

Research, write, commission, edit content for the IFRC's web properties

Publish content using web publishing tools, ensuring content is appropriate to the target audience

Prepare press releases and other media and public relations tools and products for areas of responsibility and as needed

Represent the Federation when necessary through presentations and conferences.

Vacancy for a Web Application Designer for Onformonics, Dublin

This week when meeting with a client I was intoduced to a great high potential business who is is very fast growing.

They were telling me about a vacancy they have open at the moment, and as I know a number of people who read my content are in the area of web applications, I thought I would share the details of the role in case it is of interest to you or one of your friends.

Here are the details:

Onformonics is a rapidly expanding dynamic young company headquartered in Dublin and with offices in Luxembourg and Sofia.

We are a compliance management solutions provider for the financial services sector who design and develop a range of web based products for our international clients that assist them in implementing effective compliance management programs.

We are seeking an experienced, creative and motivated Web application designer to join our team of talented professionals who can make a real difference to the overall success of the company.

Role  and Opportunity

The role of the Web Application Designer is essential to the success of the company and will include tasks such as creating prototype designs of web applications based on market research, business requirements and user goals. This will include the creation of storyboards wireframes and visual mockups in conjunction with the management of the overall User Interface design, layout and graphical content.

The successful candidate must be able to:

-    Interpret application requirements and user goals to produce innovative, novel designs and user storyboards from initial concepts through to wireframes

-    Manage overall graphical design and responsible for all aspects of the user experience from layout and interaction through to visual design

-    Create visual mockups of key application screens

-    Work closely with the web application developer to create application mockups

-    Interact with business development and product development to manage the overall application design.

Skills and Experience:

The successful candidate will be a Graduate in graphic design or related discipline and will have a minimum 3 years in web application design.

They need to demonstrate that they have the ability to create visually clean and user friendly web application designs; have knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript and AJAX; and be able to show a portfolio of previous work.

You'll be proactive and capable of working independently and cooperatively; have  a strong understanding of interaction design, usability and human-computer interaction.

We're looking for a member of our fast growing team who has good communication skills - fluent in both written and spoken English and you will also have excellent attention to detail and documentation.

Experience with typesetting, icon and logo creation, fonts and  brochure creation would be an advantage.

Communications Manager Vacancy for EducateTogether.ie, based in Dublin

Here is a great role for a communications professional who is passionate about education.

Educate Together is the representative organisation of the Educate Together schools and associations throughout the Republic of Ireland. It owes its origins to the movement to establish new multi-denominational primary schools, which emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s. By 1984, when Educate Together was established, there were three schools and the organisation acted as their co-ordinating body. Since then the movement has grown considerably.

Today there are 56 schools - the organisation became a company limited by guarantee in 1998 and has charitable status.

Educate Together is seeking a Communications Manager to create, implement and oversee communications programmes that promote Educate Together’s objectives in accordance with its strategic objectives. This position will report directly to the CEO and will form part of the senior management team of Educate Together. This is a new position and the successful candidate will have resources to employ a Communications Officer.

The position is based at Educate Together’s National Offices in Dublin. Hours are based on a 35 hour week and 26 days holidays p.a. While some home-working arrangements may be negotiated after an initial period, regular attendance at the National Office will be required. This post involves some travel within the state with time off in lieu of working at evenings or weekends. However, employees are guaranteed a number of “ring-fenced’ weekends and evening off, to ensure that such demands are kept to a manageable and agreed level.


The salary for this role will be €70,000 a year. A two-year contract is currently envisaged but this post may evolve into a permanent position. A start date early in January 2010 is sought.
