The rise in popularity of Google Chrome in the UK, Ireland and the US according to Statcounter

The Guardian reported yesterday that three years after launch, Chrome last month captured 22% of UK users and marginally overtook Mozilla's Firefox browser (metrics being sourced by Statcounter). Microsoft's Internet Explorer remains the most popular browser for UK users with 45%.

Checking Statcounter for Irish statistics you will see that in May 2011 Chrome became the second most popular browser.

And if you look at the US data it looks as though if Chrome continues to rise in popularity there, it will become the second most popular web browser by the end of 2011 or early 2010.

Bing incorporates know how of your Facebook Friends to help you make decisions online

Bing announced on 16 May 2011 that their research shows that nearly half of people say seeing their friends “likes” within search results could help them make better decisions.

They also commented that 90% of people seek advice from family and friends as part of the decision making process.

The comment that 80% of people will delay making a decision until they can get a friend’s 'stamp of approval'.

So now you can receive personalised search results based on the opinions of your friends by simply signing into Facebook.

New features make it easier to see what your Facebook friends “like” across the Web, incorporate the collective know-how of the Web into your search results, and begin adding a more conversational aspect to your searches.

Bing’s new features make it possible for people to make decisions with the help of their friends on Facebook.

Google social search goes global

Google announced this week that social search results will be rolling out across the globe in the next week and available in 19 languages.

Social search results will be visible to you and only appear when you are logged into your Google Account. If you’re signed in, Google makes a best guess about whose public content you may want to see in your results, including people from your Google chat buddy list, your Google Contacts, the people you're following in Google Reader and Buzz, and the networks you’ve linked from your Google profile or Google Account.See the people who wil be included here in your Google Dashboard.

For public networks like Twitter, Google finds your friends and sees who they’re publicly connected to as well.
