#TruDublin3 the unconference for Human Resource Professionals and Recruiters, 16-17 May Dublin

Trudublin

If you have not heard about #truDublin and you are in the role of recruitment, talent management or human resources, then take a moment to read a little about these terrific events. You will have seen me tweeting about it over the last few weeks.

#truDublin is one of a series of global events spearheaded by Bill Boorman and facilitates the profession coming together to discuss and share insights and trends.

I was fortunate to be able to attend the first #truDublin in May last year but missed the November 2011 event due to my diary commitments.

What is particualrly impressive is that the event has gone from strength to strength and this forthcoming event now spans two days - there are a limited number of one day tickets available.

Date: 16-17 May 2012

Location: The Sycamore Club, Temple Bar, Dublin 2

How to book your place: Book online

Unlike other conference you may have attended recently there are four simple rules:

1: No PowerPoint (or KeyNote, or Prezi...)

2: No Presenting

3: No Name Badges (Just ask!)

4: No Pitching.

This means that the discussion leaders for the topics are there to share briefly their experience (with an introduction to their topic of no more than five minutes)  but their main role is to facilitate the discussion.

For the remaining 55 minutes of the session, anyone can contribute, offer an opinion, ask questions, tell a story or even direct the conversation into a brand new topic.

Take a look at the current agenda of discussion tracks - you will see from looking at the speakers it reads like a 'who's who' of recruitment with facilitators from Eircom, Google, Oracle, Zynga and recruitment firms including Monster, BrightWater, CPL, LinkedIn, Hays and Sigmar.

The event would not be taking place without the fantastic support and energy of Johnny Campbell the founder of Social Talent. If you are not following him and are in the business of talent management in your company on Twitter you must - he is a great source of top tips in the new world of resourcing and his company also delivers great social recruiting workshops in Ireland and the UK if you are looking to build the capability of your people in social recruiting.

By the way - if you want to become more actively involved in #truDublin than as a participant in the sessions, if you’re interested in leading a track or sponsoring truDublin, don;t hesitate to contact holly@socialtalent.co.

I will be attending the afternoon of both days - I just wish my diary were not so full of great meetings and events this week so I could be there for the full two day session - I'm delighted that Johnny approached me to facilitate a session titled "Everyone in Recruitment is a Marketeer". I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the subject if you join that discusstion track.

How_people_use_linkedin-infographic

Lab42 recently surveyed 500 Americans who were registered LinkedIn users to discover how they utilized their profile and to see if they valued LinkedIn as a professional networking tool. The survey was conducted online via social networks from July 1 to July 5, 2011 among 500 social media users who are members of Linkedin.

How frequently do you check into LinkedIn?

Why you need to build your employment brand online if you want to attract great talent

Are you looking for a new job? Or perhaps you are looking to attract great talent to your business in Ireland? Make sure that you are building your personal brand and your company employment brand online. And if you are a Recruiting professional in Ireland make sure that you follow Recruiter Blog on Twitter for details of their workshops.

#truDublin social media for recruitment conference for HR professionals and Recruiters in Dublin, 25-26 May 2011

Are you a Human Resources Manager or a recruiter in Ireland who wants to discover how to use social media in your roles to improve your recruitment processes?

As an ex SVP and Human Resources Director I've been speaking and teaching organisations about using social media through out the employment life cycle and for employer branding for the last 6 years, hosted and created podcasts, online videos and blogs about social media for talent management and professional development and spoken at conferences about social networking and how to recruit and retain talent.

But the HR profession in Ireland have generally been slow to adopt these platforms and engage with leaders in their organisations to help them explore the organisational development, organisational proccesses and change agenda that the adoption of these new communications tools requires.

We are however seeing that the opportunity to reduce overheads through the adoption of social networking for resourcing has gathered momentum and this next week Dublin is the host of an 'unconference' called #truDublin. The conference takes place over two days and is aimed at Recruiters and H.R. professionals.

The event booking form describes the event as an unconference which we have seen many times here in Ireland through PodCamps, BarCamps, BizCamps and WordCamps to name just a few Irish unconferences. To attend #truDublin the investment is a ticket of €150 or €100 dependent on how many days you attend. Tthe sponsors for the event include CPL, Broadbean, Jobsite, Allthetopbannanas and Arithon and the event is being organised by recruiter Bill Boorman. They are even t-shirts for sale.

Date of #truDublin conference: 25-26 May 2011

Venue: Harcourt Hotel Dublin

Where to book: online here

We also often find that at an unconference the agenda is unstructured and the schedule is developed on the day - people put their hand up to lead a deiscussion topic and delegates choose to join the session or not dependent on their personal interests. The areas identified already for the discussion topics at the #truDublin unconference is as follows:

Social Media Circus - From Twitter to Facebook, how is social media and social recruiting merging? What channels are working? How do you integrate social in to the recruiting mix, or are you best

New Model Army - From flat fee, to On-Line and Retained Recruiting, the offerings in the market are constantly changing and evolving. How much will these new models become mainstream and how much is new packaging? What is going to be the next big "game changing" launch?

Technology Shopping List - What technology is essential for HR and Recruiters, and what is needed next? How can recruiters plug-in to the cloud, and what changes will this bring?

New Skool v Old Kool? - This track looks at where new tools fit with old rules, and asks the question whether anything has really changed, and if it should.

Job Board 2020 - Judging by the many posts, we should long be lamenting (or celebrating) the passing of the job board, gone the same way as it's forerunner, print media. The figures however, and the true story would suggest something quite different.  How will job boards evolve over the coming years, and what part will they play in the recruiting process?

Employee Branded - When does Employer brand start and when does it finish? Is the employer brand dictated by marketing? How much impact does social media have on the brand? Can employer brand be separated from corporate brand? What is the best way to reflect employer brand in career sites?

Facing Up To Facebook - Attitudes to Facebook as a recruiting channel over a personal network is fast changing. Share your views on the most effective ways to use Facebook for recruiting, or stand your ground and say "Stay Away"

New Blog - Blogging is recognised as one of the best ways to drive traffic towards your brand, and to raise your corporate or personal profile. The questions new bloggers have range from which platform to use, objective, how to generate content and much more.

Community Questions - What constitutes a community? Where do you start community building and how do you keep community members engaged? What is the benefit of J.I.T. sourcing against Talent Pool and what is your best approach? What part can technology play in community?

Social Learning - If learning is changing, how can we integrate social learning and development in to traditional training? Is the current education system "not fit for purpose?" How can social learning change workplace learning? What is changing now and what will change in the future?

Referral Recruiting - Referral recruiting is quoted as being the most effective and cheapest form of recruiting. As networks grow and referral applications like Linked In referral engine spring up, making opportunities viral, how will this impact on the way companies recruit? What schemes work and what are the pitfalls?

Secret Sourcing - What is the best route to sourcing the best candidates? What channels work best and how is this changing? How do you compile search strings and is anyone unfindable? Share tips, bring searches and talk with expert sourcers about how they find people.

Battle of the Bloggers - Always popular at #truevents. Join the "blog squad" and other experienced bloggers talking how to build an effective blog. What are the best sources for content and what posts have the most impact? How do you spread your message to reach your target audience? Should all blogs be self-hosted?

Linking In - Linked In is changing daily. There's new applications and looks coming out daily. People are using the channel in very different ways. What do you think makes the perfect profile? How can you use Linked In to both network and build connections for recruiting?

Global Reach - Recruiting, HR and Networking have gone global. How has this impacted on the way we work? What are the pitfalls with international relocation? How do cultures differ and how does this impact on the way we work? How do you plan a global campaign without getting stung?

Candidate Experience Solutions - Instead of talking about the usual candidate experience problems, and all agreeing there is a problem, this track will look at solutions specifically. What are the good things people are doing and how is this being received?

Graduate Recruiting - What do graduates really want? What makes an internship work for ALL parties? What do today's students need from the careers service and what is being served up? What are the most effective ways to build Graduate pipelines? What is the state of Graduate recruiting today?

Gen Y on Gen Y - Theres been lots of talk, myths and comments about Gen Y, what is truth and what is reality? Most commentators on Gen Y sit well outside the age bracket. The track leaders fit the label and will share their views on what they are really like and how they communicate. What is the best strategy to attract and keep the best talent from a generation?

Anti - Social - Social recruiting should only form part of your recruiting and talent strategy. how do you reach those that are sitting outside of the social bubble? What approaches are working without social, and are we missing key talent by being over-reliant on one network or another?

Going Mobile - Mobile is becoming mainstream, and is impacting on the way people job hunt and access the internet. From applications to QR codes, text to fully functional access, what are the key considerations for recruiters and HR in the mobile space? What is really working and what is just a shiny new toy? Share your thoughts, experience and questions with some real leaders in the mobile space.

S.E.O. - Content is worthless however good, unless it gets found. You can tweet out or post your links in all your social places, but the real tipping point comes from being Google friendly. What works for S.E.O? What is myth and what is reality? Share your tips and understand how the search engines and spiders find you. What are your Google secrets you are willing to share?

Video Integration - Video for branding, video on career sites, video interviewing, where is video going over the next 12 months? What technologies work and what are definite fails? What part the video C.V. or You Tube infomercial? What makes video work and how do you integrate the second biggest search channel (YouTube) in to your video mix?

The event certainly looks worth attending if you are an HR professional or recruiter in Ireland and want to connect with others exploring social media and social networking as part of your organisational development tool kit. It's just a shame that there is a fee to attend given the challenges many HR departments have with their overheads especially as this is still an area of early adoption in Ireland.

Don't forget to also check out another terrific conference taking place with world renound experts that is free for delegates to attend next week on Monday 24 May Techspectations Hospitality and Toourism Conference taking place at DCU. It's going to be a great week for events!
