If you are in the UK or the US and are hosting an event you may have been experimenting with Snapchat geofilters for events from birthdays to conferences.
I was recently speaking at some events and conferences in the UK so them as an opportunity to create and test Snapchat on demand geofilters myself. You can find out more about the guidelines for Snapchat geofilters here.
Through that process I learnt many things – and one was that to create your own geofilter design was not so easy if you do not have great design skills.
In the event that you want to create your own Snapchat geofilter without hiring a designer, here are three ways that you can create your custom Snapchat geofilter for free or for a very low cost (note these resources include affiliate links).
Create Your Snapchat Geo Filter With PicMonkey
There are desktop design tools you can use to create your own Snapchat geofilters – such as using PicMonkey which enables you to create your filter by setting the design at 1080 pixels wide and a height of 1920 pixels. You need to create a transparent png file which you can easily create with PicMonkey.
The one thing I found when creating my Snapchat geo filter was that despite there being lots of templates within the tool that you can access with their free or paid account, the filters I created did not look as good as many I had seen others create, so therefore were not really inspiring for people to use on their Snapchat content.
Create Your Snapchat Geo Filter With Relay
I discovered that another visual design tool that I use had integrated some free Snapchat filters that you can customise for your own event. And if you invest in Relay’s paid plan which is only 8 USD a month (at the time of writing this article) they have a greater selection to choose from.
You can get access to a 20 USD voucher to use against your paid account on Relay by clicking this link (note that I will also will get a referral fee for passing this link to you should you choose to use it).
The templates provided certainly looked far more professional than those I had tried to create from scratch.
Create Your Snapchat With Help From Makeshake Designers
A third resource I have just come across and have not personally tested helps you access professional designers – I have not tested this as the service is due to launch on 18 July 2016.
Makeshake is a new online marketplace that lets you purchase custom-made Snapchat geofilters created by designers – the designers upload their Snapchat geofilter and you can then request alterations to personalise your design.
Design changes are due to be made in 48 hours and you will then be able to submit the geofilter to Snapchat and wait for their approval.
Adweek comment that designers will be setting their own prices for the designs they make available for customisation and they will get paid 55 percent of each sale. The average Snapchat geofilter will be 22 USD but if you sign up now you will get a voucher for 5 USD credit.
Next Steps For Your Snapchat Marketing
If you do need to hire a designer to work with you to create your Snapchat custom geofilter and are looking for assistance with your Snapchat marketing, you can book a meeting with me to discuss your requirements. Since initially testing Snapchat geofilters I have since worked with a two Snapchat geofilter artists for other projects and am happy to introduce them to my clients. However the investment working with professional designers is far more than the DIY resources I have mentioned above which are perfect if you have a limited budget or just want to test out the Snapchat custom geofilter feature.
Do let me know how you are using Snapchat geofilters in your business as I would be delighted to feature you in future Snapchat case studies I write about.
