Update 12 July 2013
At long last Instagram has finally made available the ability to embed instagram photographs and videos – perhaps as a response to the new tools that are being released by third parties such as those I mentioned in my original article.
Instagram comment in their blog post announcing the update:
Your embedded photo or video appears with your Instagram username, and clicking on the Instagram logo will take people to your page on Instagram.com where they can discover more of your photos and videos.
To be able to use Instagram’s embed feature you need to be logged into Instagram – this could mean that people will continue to use the third party features as many organisations will not want to create an Instagram account just to embed content. SlideShare, Twitter and YouTube on the other hand allow people to embed content without having to log into their service.
People whose account setting on Instagram is Private will not have the embed option available.
To embed an Instagram video or photograph, click on the image or video on someones account and on the right you will see a ‘share’ icon – when click on this the embed feature will appear.
See an example of the share icon on this photograph from Sligo Tourism Instagram content.
Once you have the embed code you can then add it to your blog post or web page – below is an example of a photograph I shared on Instagram of the cloudless blue sky over Dublin.
With the launch of video for Instagram you might have started to create content in short video format. Unfortunately no resources are available yet to embed your videos (unlike with Vine) from Facebook. That is where this nifty free web app comes into play.
Check out the video I created earlier today providing a sneak peak at some of the content I will be sharing at an event hosted by The AIB Lab for businesses looking to use digital marketing as an integral part of their communications plan. I have also embedded the vodeo below.
Head over to Embed Instagram and all you need to do is add the URL of the instagram video you want to embed and choose the format.
Then the embed code will be available for you to use.
Update 25 June 2013
I had initially posted “the Embed Instagram app only works for video – unfortunately it does not work for Instagram images”. Just a short time after posting this article the developer left a comment on the blog to advise the tool now also works for images on Instsgram not just videos.
Will you try this work-around until such time that Facebook releases and embed code for Instagram videos?

Three Other Ways To Embed Your Instagram Videos On Your Website Or Blog
1. Check out Embed.ly which also has a WordPress plugin available. using Embed.ly you can embed video, images, audio as they turn any URL into embeddable content.
2. If like me you use Storify.com to curate content you could use their platform to embed your instagram video – see their announcement of the update to their platform here.
3. Mashable also walk you through a process in their article here which is a little more complicated.
Note: I also came across a platform called InstaEmbed.com which looks similar to Embed Instagram that I referenced above – however it has less details on the landing page. I am not sure if they are related or just very very similar!
Will you be creating videos on instagram as part of your content marketing plan? How do you plan to share them – and even embed them?
