If you follow Snapchat news you may recall that Snapchat bought Bitstrips, the startup behind Bitmoji, back in March for a reported US$100 million, but at the time. This week Snapchat revealed how it would integrate Bitstrips’ product alowing Snapchat users the opportunity to use their personalised avatar in chat or in snaps.
If you do not already have a Bitmoji account, this article takes you through how to create and integrate your Bitmoji account with Snapchat. The screen shots are from an Android device.
Firstly find and install the free Bitmoji app on your Android or iOS device.
You will be able to create an account with your email or Snapchat account and will then be able to start to customise your Bitmoji to reflect your personal brand on Snapchat.
You will be able to create your personal Bitmoji changing for example the colour and style of your hair and the shape of your face.
You will even be able to items such as add hair decorations and glasses.
Then you will be able to select a custom outfit. This I think is going to present Snapchat with a new way of monetising their content as I could imagine how brands could get involved in sponsoring outfits such as for movie releases. The Bitmoji app already provides for in-app purchases you can make to customise your avatar.
You can use the Bitmoji you create and select from many different many different expressions through messaging apps other than Snapchat. To do this you will need to enable the BitMoji keyboard. Here is how you do so in Android devices:
Then you will see the tab for the Bitmoji keyboard.
Now you have created your personalised Bitmoji avatar, you are ready to connect to your Snapchat account.
First head to your settings in your Snapchat account.
You will then see a link to connect and authorise the Bitmoji app.
Then you will get a confirmation to say your accounts are linked. Note that not all the designs available in the Bitmoji app are available in Snapchat stickers.
Then you are all set to start to integrate your personalised Bitmoji into your Snapchat content. What a great way to personalise your content!
And as a fun feature, if your friends have Bitmoji linked to their Snapchat, you’ll be able to see ‘Friendmoji’ when you look to message them – see an example below.
Bonus Tip – How To install The Bitmoji Keyboard On iOS
You need to navigate to the ‘General section in Settings on your phone then:
– Click clcik throough to “Keyboards”
– Click on “Add New Keyboard”
– Under “Third Party Keyboards” tap “Bitmoji” – you will then need to clcik “Allow Full Access” and switch it from Off to On.
Again take time to review their terms as you may prefer to to let the app have access to your data for privacy reasons.
