As part of my curation of case studies of how organisations are using Google Hangouts On Air here is an example from the movies – for the launch of the much talked about film Interstellar.
The event was hosted live using Google Hangouts On Air from the Smithsonian’s Air and Space museum featuring members of the cast of the movie and they invited a number of people to join them in the film strip from across the globe. You can see the Google Plus event page here.
For information including images and video clips from the movie check ou the Interstellar Google Plus page.
You can watch the replay ofthe live stream below or on YouTube.
They also have an interesting use of the Showcase App which you can see in the screen shot below using it to promote purchasing tickets for the show, an invitation to visit the website for the movie, a link to pre-order the book and also information about the different viewing formats for the show.
You will see from the social media channels for the movie that the #InterStellar Hangout that the Hangout On Air was also promoted on Facebook and Twitter.
Having watched the cast of Interstellar on a TV show last week as part of the promotion, the Hangout On Air seemed to me to miss the energy of being in front of a live studio audience and it was probably influenced by the tone of the host.
One segment in the Hangout I personally thought was interesting, was the casts view on whether they read and take note of reviews – this is around the 13 minute mark of the Hangout On Air and will be of interest if you are a professional speaker.
What ideas does this give you for using Hangouts On Air to market and promote your production, perhaps a play or event that is taking place?
