A question I am often asked is why someone can not host a live stream using Facebook Live on their business page. We use Facebook Live as one of the platforms to share our weekly live video news with the Live Stream Insiders show.
There are usually some easy things that you can do to rectify this.
Live streaming to your Facebook Page from your smartphone
If you are live streaming using your mobile device, you need to make sure that you use the official Facebook Pages app NOT the standard Facebook app.
As an example of what you need to do on your mobile phone see these screen shots from my iOS device for the Live Stream Insiders Facebook Page. Firstly when on your pcage that you want to stream from click the publish button.
When on your Facebook Page using your mobile device click the video icon to access Facebook Live (you can also click the camera icon).
You will then see the ability to post a Facebook Live video.
It is important to note that with the Facebook Pages app you can not make the live stream private or restrict access to it (unlike when using the Facebook Profile app).
Remember to add a engaging title which will post to your Facebook Page and which others will see in the news feed and can help attract viewers to your Page.
I always recommend that you test live streaming before you do so publicly – no matter which live stream platform you use so that you avoid posting and your whole community of followers receiving a notification to avoid people having to see your tests.

Live streaming to your Facebook Page using BlueJeans for Facebook Live
If you have decided to live stream to your Facebook Page using live streaming platform BlueJeans for Facebook Live then as I have written about in this BlueJeans for Facebook Live tutorial, some people have had issues if their business page is connected to the Facebook Business Manager which you may have done to manage ads.
The work around if you do not wish to disconnect your Facebook Page from the business manager is to stream to another Facebook Page or profile and share it.
Live streaming with Facebook Live to your Facebook Page using your mobile device if you have a verified page
If you have a verified page on Facebook, you will be able to use the Mentions App. In fact verified pages had access to Facebook Live before other users using the Mentions app.
It is especially important to also be aware of the Branded Content Policy on Facebook which I reference in this article. Facebook have stated they will remove any branded content in violation of, or disapprove ads for lack of compliance with, the branded content policies.
If you are looking for support in getting started with using live video including Facebook Live for your marketing campaigns you can schedule a confidential conversation to discuss my mentoring and training programmes.
