I am always interested to see how organisations in Ireland are using Gogle Hangouts as part of their marketing.
EY Ireland support the Entrepreneur of the Year Award and as part of the promotion for the programme in advance of the 2014 awards that take place in October they have begun a series of TV shows on RTE that showcase some of the finalists. You can follow the conversation on Twitter using #eoy2014.
The first show aired on 29 September and it was interesting to see businesses and entreprenuers I know being featured.
However what caught my attention was that at the end of the show there was a reference on the TV show of a Hangout that was taking place staight after the live broadcast. Unlike many organisations they chose not to host a Google Hangout On Air broadcasting from Google Plus but they embedded it on their website.
This allows them to extend the conversation longer than the recorded TV show, with the potential to increase engagement, answer questions from viewers and also feature entrepreneurs that were not included in the TV series.
Unfortunately, and possibly due to lack of integration with the marketing for the show, at the time of writing this article 6 days after the original Hangout for ‘The Entrepreneur Hangout‘ took place, there are only 19 views of the Hangout. What we often find however is that many Hangouts gain views after the live event airs especially if the content is evergreen, has a marketing plan behind it and it has been optimised for search.
You can see the reference to the Hangout in the video below.
Have you seen organisations promoting the opportunity to watch their live Google Hangout at the during a live event or TV appearance?
It’s certainly a great idea to do this and is one of the topics I will be covering in a forthcoming event for professional speakers in Ireland.
Do take care however that if you are going to use Google Hangotus for your business that you set up a business page for your organisation – you will see here in the EOY Ireland example they are using a personal profile. It also has not been updated since July 2014.
