If you have been doubting the importance of multi media to Twitter then check out their latest update to their Andoroid and iOS apps released today. The new photo and video previews will also be available on Twitter on the web – see the example above and also the screen shot below from my Twitter feed on the web today.
Twitter photos and Vine videos will now automatically show in feeds without the added step of having to expand the content.
They comment in their blog:
So many of the great moments you share on Twitter are made even better with photos or with videos from Vine. These rich Tweets can bring your followers closer to what’s happening, and make them feel like they are right there with you.
We want to make it easier for everyone to experience those moments on Twitter.
That’s why starting today, timelines on Twitter will be more visual and more engaging: previews of Twitter photos and videos from Vine will be front and center in Tweets. To see more of the photo or play the video, just tap.
In the image above you can see a screen shot of my own Twitter feed with previews of images that I posted from the Dublin Web Summit using the iOS updated app. If you click on the image when on your device or on the web, it them opens up to the full size rather than the preview.
I have recently written about the importance of images in Twitter and the best ways to post them if you want more Re-Tweets – you can read the article here.
Will this update encourage you to send more content on Twitter using embedded images of Vine video content rather than using Twitter cards?
