One of the challenges when you are watching a live stream on Periscope is that the comments fly by really fast. This is a challenge whether you are the moderator of a live stream on Periscope or if you are the live streamer.
This is where a free Chrome extension can help called BroadcasterPro.
There have been other tools developed over the last eighteen months for Periscope management, some paid and some free – such as Chatterbox for Periscope that allows you to review chats and implement polls. Broadcaster Pro is not developed by Periscope themselves, though I understand that a member of the Periscope team mentioned it to a prominent live streamer that I was listening to today, so you may to check what access it needs to your account before you use it.
To be able to use it if you were the live streamers you need to be near a desk top device to watch the comments on the screen, however this tool could be used by your team who could relay comments to you.
It also works for any live stream on Periscope so for example you could use it to view the comments of a team member who is streaming if you are managing the production of the stream, or you could use it to help evaluate the live stream of a potential strategic partner or influencer.
The Chrome extension does not work for replays – only broadcasts.
See in the image below an example of the Periscope.tv stream for a live stream without the extension being used.
However, with the Chrome extension enabled then you will see the comments are much larger, you can scroll up and down the comments and you can see the number of hearts increase in real time.
You can see this in the animated gif below.
